Modified checklist for Autism in toddlers, known as MCHAT ( R) is freely available online and can be used in age group 16-30 months to screen for ASD. It is a 20 item checklist and responses are filled in as Yes/ No answers. It gives a risk stratification as low (0-2), medium(3-7) and high risk (>7) for ASD based on the responses. Both American Academy of Pediatrics and Indian Academy of Pediatrics recommend screening of every child for ASD at 18 months of age (which can be clubbed with DPT booster visit in Indian setting) .
