Patients with Flu like illnesses with mild fever, sore throat, diarrhoea and vomiting do not need any testing and should be treated symptomatically and followed as outpatients. They do not need Oseltamivir or any antibiotics.
Patients with severe symptoms or those in High Risk Group, should be treated with Oseltamivir, irrespective of the Nasal Swab report for H1N1.

Asymptomatic persons who are in High Risk group and are Household contacts of Suspected Flu patients should be given Oseltamivir Chemoprophylaxis.

However, in Private practice, patients often come with lab diagnosis of Swine Flu (H1N1). They would demand anti-viral treatment for the patient and advice for the family members. If you try explaining them the Guidelines that no anti-viral medication is needed, they would insist on that or would see another colleague.
