Adoption is act of lawfully assuming the parental rights and responsibilities of a child under the age of 18 irrevocably.  Adopted children become full members of their adopted family and have the same legal status as biological children.

Foster care is a situation in which a child is temporarily placed with a foster family or a child welfare agency under adverse circumstances like any serious illness preventing parents from caring their child or child abuse and neglect. Social service agencies may remove children and place them with foster parents with the intention of re-uniting the biological family at a later time or while searching for adoptive parents. Later foster parent may become adoptive family after legal process of adoption.

Kinship care is commonly defined as full-time care, nurturing, and protection of a child by relatives or other adults who have a family relationship to a child. There are many benefits to placing children with relatives or other kinship caregivers, such as increased stability and safety as well as the ability to maintain family connections and cultural traditions
