Primary Irritant Contact dermatitis, also referred to as Napkin Dermatits, is the most common variety of Perineal dermatitis in infancy.
It is precipitated by the constant moisture, occlusion and frictional forces that occur under a napkin which compromises skin integrity. It is characterized by glazed, confluent erythema along with erythematous papules, edema and scaling of the involved skin.
It involves the convexities of the buttocks, medial thighs, genital area, sparing the skin folds.
