Systemic Onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis   SOJIA

SOJIA is characterized by fever which is documented to be quotidian for at least 3 days and lasts for 2 weeks. It can be seen in all age groups. Child is quite well during afebrile intervals

Important features are :

  • Arthritis,
  • Evanescent erythematous rashes
  • Generalized lymphadenopathy
  • Hepatosplenomegaly and 
  • Serositis

Laboratory examination shows 

  • Leucocytosis,
  • Anemia
  • Thrombocytosis
  • Elevated ESR, CRP and Ferritin. 

Treatment includes NSAIDs, corticosteroids, methotrexate and Tocilizumab. A life threatening complication macrophage activation syndrome(MAS) can be seen in patients with SOJIA.
